General Member Policies for Use of the Facilities

At SBAC, our mission is to create an environment where individuals of all shapes, sizes, confidence and ability levels will fee welcome and supported.  To fulfill this mission, we must have compliance from our members with the following policies in utilizing the SBAC facilities.

We want your visit to be the best part of your day, so please adhere to the following policies and procedures regarding use of the facilities at South Bay Athletic Club:

General Areas:

*  Proper athletic attire is required to use the facilities.  This includes a shirt and athletic shoes.  Athletic shoes means closed-toe, rubber-soled athletic footwear.  No boots, dress shoes, or bare feet are permitted in the equipment or court areas.  Shoes must be worn from the locker room to the pool and yoga areas.  No black soled athletic shoes can be worn on the courts.

*  Inappropriate behavior or attitudes that adversely affet fellow members will be handled at the discretion of management.  No foul, abusive, or disrepectful language to other members or staff will be tolerated.  In appropriate conduct may result in immediate termination of membership without refund.

*  All members are required to carry and use sweat towels during their use of the equipment.  Complimentary sweat towels are available for your use.  Cleaning stations with a sanitizer and towel are located throughout the facility.  Please use these items to wipe your sweat off the equipment when you are finished.

*  Only plastic water bottles are permitted in the exercise areas.  Please keep all other food and drink in the lobby. 

*  Gymbags are not permitted on the exercise floor or in the main walkways.  If you have forgotten your lock, the front desk will be happy to hold your bag for you while you exercise.

Free Weight Room Etiquette:

*  A spotter is recommended when ever you are using free weights.  Members are responsible to rquest assistance when lifting strenuously.

*  Return weights and all other equipment to their appropriate storage place when you are finished using them.

*  Weights, plates, or bars may not be leaned against walls, mirrors, or machines for any reason, at any time.

*  When doing multiple sets, please allow others to "work-in".  Please do not tie up equipment by resting on it between sets.

*  Notify SBAC staff immediately if you discover a piece of equipment that is not working properly. 

Cardiovascular Equipment Areas:

*  There is no restriction on time for using the equipment in the cardio areas, including treadmills, bikes, steppers, and ARCs.

*  Safety cords must be used whenever you are using the treadmills.

*  Stop the machine and return it to the base position when you are finished.  (i.e., for safety of the next member, do not leave a treadmill in an inclined position).

*  You must wipe off the machine with the sanitizer when you are finished your workout.

Locker Rooms:

*  Lockers are for day use only unless you have rented a locker in advance.  [For details in renting a locker, see the "Current Member Assistance" section of this web site.

*  Bring your own lock and lock up your valuables while you are in the facility. 

*  Locks left on day use lockers at closing will be subject to being cut.  Do not leave your personal items in the locker room when you leave.

Basketball Court Use:

*  Players must leave the court 5 minutes prior to any group exercise class.

*  Basketballs are available at the front desk for check out with collateral and must be returned to the front desk when you are finished.

Pool Use:

*  As per the board of health code, you must take a cleansing shower immediately prior to using the pool, sauna, or jacuzzis.

*   You must wear footwear from the locker room to the pool and vice versa. 

*   You must dry off after exiting the pool before you re-enter the fitness center area. 

*   To maintain the temperature of our pool, the pool is covered when not in use.  Please ask a staff member upon your arrival to remove the cover if you wish to swim.  You may not enter the pool until the pool cover is removed.

*  The pool and spas are monitored every two hours for chemical safety.  In the event the pool or spa must be adjusted, the area will be closed for a minimum of 30 minutes.  Do not enter the pool or spa if the closed sign is posted.  We will make every effort to reopen the area as quickly as possible. 

Group Exercise Classes:

*  We encourage you to vary your schedule to achieve maximum results and prevent injury and negative stress to your body.  Consult with our instructors to determine which classes are best for you.  Always consult your doctor before beginning any exercise program.

*  Proper footwear is required in all classes. 

*  We reserve the option to change the instructor or delete programming on the schedule when necessary.

*  If you are trying our program or a new class for the first time, please inform the instructor so they can give you guidance for the class.  For your safety, please make every effort to arrive on time for class.  If you arrive late, take time to warm-up before you engage in heavy activity.

*  Please sign-in before each class.  The sign-in sheets for the classes in the shared group exercise/basketball court are in the front of the room.  The sign-in sheets for the specialty spin, yoga, and kickboxing classes are at the front desk prior to class.
